I have gone through quite a few folders. From Kershaw's, to Benchmade, to CRKT's, etc. I am looking for a new one, what do y'all carry? This is one I am looking at.
I carried an Emerson for a long time... Now I carry an AL Mar SERE 2K. My wife bought them for me and my foreman when we did a kitchen remodel. I just bought another for my Son for his B-Day.... Al Mar knives are the only one I can really keep a 'shave' edge on... Good Stuff for the right Fuggin Marine! Very smooth and I think it may have ball bearings in the pivot... not sure of that but it's smooth... Not a folder, but this is my combat Knife..phishi has one also and was the one responsible for my AL Mar addiction:Jerk SERE Operator:
I carry one of the two Emersons I got at Blade - a waved CQC-8 or a waved Commander. I think Emerson is second only to Strider and when I sell a few more knives I'll get a Strider. The Commander's on the top:
Nice. I carried a CQB-7 and gave my wife a CQB-7 mini. The CQB-7 was first an Emerson-Benchmade design and phishi has one of the original Benchmade's Nice knife. There are a lot of really good, production, pocket folders out there... I'm waiting for Valk to make one.....
I have an older Al Mar which I really like. For the life of me I find it hard to get into these new folders that have the release mechanism inside and not on the outside. I found that the Al Mar is a sweet knife all around for doing just about anything I want. Problem is - I just hate to get it scratched so I end up using one of my fixed blades and back it goes somewhere at the moment I hope in the safe (because right now my room seems to be the black hole for knives).
O.k..... I have to admit my daily carries tend to be Victorinox knives.... can't beat them for normal chores.... not a nuclear tough knife that will go through doors or beat bricks... but the tweezer, scissors, can opener, short blade, long blade etc... come in real handy all the time..... I don't have much use for the cork screw....
I forgot about the Swiss Army Knife - my Mom gave me one back in the 80's and I never am without one since. Great knives - and I did find a use for the corkscrew! We used to have this screwhole about an inch deep that bugs would nest in on gas well meters. When I needed to get that nesting stuff out of the hole I corkscrewed it out - worked great.
Well, I have a Sabre 9211 that I got about 15 years ago and still carry even though I had to regrind it after useing it as a screwdriver/crowbar to many times and it has the weld marks on the back from useing it to jump the cylinoid on an old car, it makes a nice back up and for under $10 new I have to say it has held up great. My other one thats alwayse on me is a Winchester that my sis got me for christmas a couple years ago in a package deal with a multi tool that I also carry. Another thing I love about that Sabre, I think its the ONLY lock blade I have ever owned where the lock has NEVER failed, and with the way I abuse knives (cut wire, scrape metal clean, use as screw driver, use to pry, cut sheet metal, have even used a pocket knife to take out a wall in the house) its amazeing that any knife has survived me for 15 years!
I have carried a Leatherman Micra for several years, I use the scissors and gadgets daily. My local wallyworld had a package deal with a Gerber multi tool and a frame lock knife for 13.82, so I have been using one of the Gerbers for a couple of months now, the other tools are better on the Gerber.
If they don't. or you can't get there, I'll pick one up for you. The new store is only a mile from my house.
That is awesome. We are getting a brand spanking new Super Wal-Mart and Lowe's in Lindale, they should be open in a month or two. Tyler is also getting a new Gander Mountain. Like I needed an excuse to spend more money. If you go by there, pick me one up and I will send you some cash. We need to get together. Maybe do some work on the AK's.
Possibly today, tomorrow at the latest. Got my 20 yards of dirt moved, site ready for my new shop, me and Bobcat, anyway, still gotta lot of work to do. Should be ready to get back on AK project maybe next month.
