Hey Everyone! As I am sure you all know I am new. I have been learning alot already. I am new to the Tampa area, I use to live in the seattle area. I am hoping someone can tell me of a good outdoors gear store that I can go to. I thank you in advance for any information you can forward my way! P.S I also am looking for a place to get the Frost Mora 840 MG knife. If anyone know of a good place to get those it will be appreciated!!
Hi and welcome, Ben's Backwoods is a very good site for Mora knives. You might want to look at the 911 and the new versions of the Mora 2000 (the Bushcraft Forest and the Bushcraft Force). Good stuff.
I have a couple Mora knives. Both of mine are carbon steel. One is a military model plastic molded handle. The other is a classic wood handle. I have to say that both are fantastic cutters. I use them primarily for butchering game. The plastic one is a bit better suited for that since the handle is less slick and can be cleaned easier. It seems more durable as well. The sheaths. There are some aftermarket sheaths from places like JRE that are way better. Crap sheaths are one of the things that make the moras a great deal. JRE-Home
I got a Mora a few months ago. I was impressed with the quality and sharpness when I got it. It is the one with the molded handle as well. I recently attempted to process a rabbit with it - not good. Made a mess and had to throw the whole thing out. I'd hate to blame the knife, so I'll take the blame myself, but I did do much better with my 6" Buck 420 on the remaining 2 rabbits. Maybe I'll give it another try sometime in the future. BTW - Cody Lundin carries a Mora on the show Dual Survival - bit 'o trivia there
Cody Lundin is a very practical individual when it comes to survival. The reason that I am interested in the Mora knives in the first place is because he promotes them in his books in a round about way. I currently have the Rat Izula for my survival/edc knife and am very happy with it. I am just looking to have a back-up knife. The theory of redundency..."one is none...two is one" or something like that makes alot of sense to me. So the mora knives make that affordable and a good choice because of the quality.
+1 on Cody's reccommendation (I grabbed one myself for the same reason), high carbon steel, reddish wooden handle, crappy plastic sheath think I paid like $12.oo on fee-bay NIB. Light Simple and scary sharp, It'll take the appendix outta' your grandmother and not even leave a scar!
The 860mg military clipper Mora is a pretty good economical buy: link here and I remember buying one from CTD or SMG a while back for about $8. I see that SMG still sells them, but for about $13 as a member. Incidentally, you can find them at Amazon for the same price. Don't let the price fool you. These are amazingly rugged knives that take an exceptional edge.
Kydex Sheath I think I am gonna get one these and make a kydex sheath for it sometime in the very near future. Thanks for the links!! I was hoping to find a brick and mortar store to go into and buy this knife but have been unable to locate a store here in the tampa area...so I will just have to resort to the internet. Can't go wrong I have owned Mora knives for over 25 years. They are inexpensive, tough, and durable. Everyone in the family has at least one, most have two. You just can't go wrong with a Mora.
Smoky Mountain Knife Works sells Mora knives and they sell by mail order.I bought a Mora and some Opinel and Old Hickory paring knives last time I was there.
Got the new SMK book today and i was looking at those knifes, very nice and will order one tomorrow. Orange easy to see one.
My favorite place for Mora/Frost knives is Ragnar's Ragweed Forge...Ragnar's Swedish Knife Catalog . I've bought from him a couple times, and have been happy each time.
I agree with Crufflerjj, Ragner's Ragweed Forge. I recently purchased 4 Mora's from him and his prices were the best, shipping was reasonable, ($6.00 flat shipping for one or a bunch) He's a really nice person to deal with. I received mine 4 days after I placed the order.
